The Lowdown on Lowers Decks Star Eugene Cordero
January 22, 2026

Eugene Cordero is no stranger to Star Trek: The Cruise, but we’re going deeper with the Lower Decks star before we launch.
Get to know Eugene before he joins us for another year of out of this galaxy fun as we talk about the 60th anniversary of Star Trek, Sam Rutherford, and more.
We’ll be celebrating 60 years of Star Trek on the 2026 cruise. When you think about your place in the amazing franchise’s history, how do you feel?
I love being part of the Trek Family, so many great artists that have contributed to the franchise, and to be included in the long list, I couldn’t be happier. Trek has affected my life and it is amazing to do the same for others.
How do you view the impact Star Trek has had on pop culture and the world? What impact has Star Trek had on you personally?
Star Trek is a mainstay in pop culture, always evolving but always keeping the same values hope of a better world and better life for all who live in it. As a POC, Trek has been on the frontline of highlighting our stories and lifting up minorities in many ways, I saw it growing up and continue to watch it happen now.
You play Sam Rutherford, in what ways are you similar to your character and how are you different?
I play Sam Ruftherford, I like to think I have the same optimism and focus as him. I do have the same commitment to my friendships, and always feel like a attacking problems with a team is way better than by yourself. The ways we differ is… well I am not as smart as this young Engineer.
You are joining an amazing all-star Star Trek crew onboard in 2026, who are you most excited to see?
I LOVE SEEING EVERYONE! It truly feels like a family, so the reunion on this ship is always magical. I am also excited to welcome in the Starfleet Academy crew, they will be a fantastic addition to the already amazing crew!
